Real Life Hero skydived inside the swirl of popcorn in the making. When his parachute opened he heard what sounded like a tank. He looked below. It was a tank and it was headed where he was.
He glided away in the opposite direction. Things weren’t better here. Real Life Hero saw a couple more parachutes carrying his enemies towards the same town. He swerved and landed on a dirt road nearby. Upon touching land he sprinted up a sand hill, away from the town, hoping to find some guns. He found an orange fish, some blue juice and three grenades.
His heart was racing and his palms sweating, sliding down the hill towards the red house without a gun. He searched from room to room, glancing left and right. Just bandages and more bandages. Where are the damn guns? He thought. Inside the bathroom he heard the day-brightening sound of a glowing chest. He looked up and smashed the ceiling with his sword. Bars of gold, a pile of bullets and yes, finally a gun fell from above. Yes, it was just a simple pistol but even that was better than no gun.
He left the house and sprinted up the hill only to see what looked like a deserted town. Only it wasn’t deserted. An enemy was running around not too far away. He couldn’t shoot from a distance with his pistol and he was at the edge of the safe zone. He could only move forward and so he ran straight at the enemy.
The enemy crouched down and fired at him with a laser gun.
Real Life Hero, pistol firm in both hands, aimed.
The enemy jumped up and down.
Real Life Hero fired.
One shot, two shots, three shots. All misses.
The enemy hid behind a boulder.
Real Life Hero jumped to the other side of the rock.
One, two, three shots. The enemy was dead.
He moved into the town. The building was half-buried in the sand and didn’t have much to give. He searched, moving from door to door without much pause. It was like moving through a maze, each room a disappointment. He grabbed whatever he could find.
Footsteps. Someone was in the building. He crouched down and moved around, searching for the enemy. Nothing.
He climbed up to the first floor. Still nothing.
He climbed up the roof.
The footsteps sounded louder.
He turned around. The enemy climbed up the roof, his back turned. He was dressed in yellow and pink, looking like a clown.
He hasn’t seen me, Real Life Hero thought. He couldn’t believe his luck. He grabbed his SMG and started shooting. The clown was dead.
He had looted his way deep into the island when he spotted another enemy. He was running around across the river. Real Life Hero looked through the burst rifle’s scope. When he got a good shot he fired.
A hit.
The enemy stopped.
Is that a rocket launcher? He thought staring at the dark thing on the enemy’s shoulder.
He ran away from his current position towards the river and stood behind a rock. The accompanying sound confirmed it. It was a rocket.
He looked through his scope again and saw the rocket hitting a rock a few meters away from him near the enemy.
He found a good shot and took it. It was enough. The enemy was dead.
He spotted another enemy not far ahead.
The enemy disappeared down a hill.
Real Life Hero sprinted after him.
He was looking around the green field when a wall materialized before him. An enemy, he thought.
The enemy circled around but Real Life Hero spotted him.
He fired. One good shot, three more as the enemy tried to run away. The enemy lay dead amidst the yellow flowers for a moment then his body disappeared.
Real Life Hero was looking across the river when a bullet flew past him, below his arm, missing him by a hair. He turned around and ran forward.
Another shot. He saw the light from the gun powder. The enemy was far, straight ahead.
A couple more shots and Real Life Hero was half-dead.
He built cover, a wall. Then more walls. He moved backwards and built a few more walls surrounding him like a prison. He listened for footsteps. Nothing. He was safe. He took out a medical kit and bandaged himself up back to full health.
An explosion sounded as he jumped up to exit his self-made prison. From the corner of his eye he saw the flash of the explosion. He climbed up the wall unscathed. Lucky, he thought.
Under the sound of explosions behind him, the long range shooter fired again.
Real Life Hero was hit. It was worse this time. He tried to hide and nurse himself back to health. No luck. Behind the wall he saw an enemy running towards him.
Real Life Hero grabbed his machine gun and started shooting. Still no luck. He was dead.
Until tomorrow.
